Vistara would now be able to book two seats so that the passenger can fly with one seat besides it empty, the airline said. “Passengers flying with us can book two seats and fly with one seat empty. Passengers will have to pay for the seat but no extra fee (beyond the charge for buying one extra flight ticket) will be charged for booking the one extra seat.
This scheme will not just help airlines earn extra revenues but will also provide an opportunity to passengers, who want to fly with the adjacent seat vacant in the aircraft. Maintaining social distancing inside the aircraft is difficult but some passengers prefer to keep the seat besides them vacant.
An earlier proposal by the government to keep the middle seat vacant was not implemented after it was found that social distancing norms cannot be fulfilled even after keeping the middle seat vacant.
